Pollington is a small, low-lying village and civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, a few miles south-west of Goole. It sits on the flat, fertile expanse of the Humberhead Levels, with the broad channels of the River Ouse and the Humber Estuary not far away, so the landscape is marked by drained peatlands, arable fields and rich wetland habitats.
The local economy is largely agricultural and the community is compact and village-centred, with a parish church and hall at its heart; birdwatching and wildlife on nearby moors are popular. There is also a touch of 20th-century history close by - the wartime airfield at RAF Snaith and the remnant peat moors around Hatfield Moor give the area an added historical and ecological dimension.
