Skerne and Wansford is a small, characterful civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, formed around two compact villages set in gently rolling arable countryside. It has the quiet rural feel of hedged lanes, traditional brick and stone cottages and a modest village hall, while remaining within reasonable reach of larger market towns for services and commuting.
Historically the settlements grew from medieval farming hamlets and retain a number of older buildings and field patterns that reflect that past; agriculture still underpins the local economy alongside a few small enterprises and residents who commute outwards. Social life is centred on community institutions such as the church and village hall, seasonal events and informal networks, and the surrounding landscape is popular locally for walking, wildlife watching and enjoying the rural tranquillity rather than large-scale tourism.
