Kelk is a very small, predominantly rural civil parish in the East Riding of Yorkshire, formed around the hamlets of Great Kelk and Little Kelk. Set on the rolling chalk of the Yorkshire Wolds, it comprises scattered farms, lanes and hedged fields, with countryside popular for quiet walking and birdwatching and within easy reach of market towns such as Bridlington and Driffield for services.
Locally the character is agricultural - arable and livestock farming remains the mainstay - and the built environment reflects that history in brick and stone farmhouses and cottages whose layouts and field patterns echo medieval settlement. Social life tends to be low-key and community-minded, centred on neighbouring villages and occasional local gatherings rather than on amenities within the parish itself.
