Rodmell is a small village and civil parish in the district of Lewes, East Sussex, England, sitting on the banks of the River Ouse at the foot of the South Downs, a few miles south of Lewes. Its chalk downland, water meadows and winding river make it popular with walkers and birdwatchers and give it a distinctly rural, sheltered character.
The village is best known for Monk's House, the modest 17th‑century cottage where Virginia Woolf lived and worked, now cared for by the National Trust, which brings literary visitors alongside a longstanding agricultural community, historic church and village pub - making Rodmell a quiet place with an unexpectedly rich cultural and historic resonance.
