Playden is a tiny rural parish in the district of Rother in East Sussex, situated immediately beside the historic town of Rye and close to the estuary of the River Rother. The landscape mixes low-lying farmland and grazing marshes that flow into the coastal wetlands around Rye Harbour and the Romney Marsh, making the area popular with birdwatchers and walkers.
The community is small and largely residential with an agricultural legacy, while many residents work in or around Rye and in local conservation and tourism. Playden retains a quiet, historic character - narrow lanes, a parish church and buildings that hint at medieval origins and the smuggling-era stories commonly told along this stretch of coast.
