Alciston is a tiny village and civil parish in the district of Wealden, in East Sussex, England, tucked into the chalk downland of the South Downs and overlooking the wooded valley of the Cuckmere. Its cluster of flint and thatched cottages and narrow lanes give it a picture‑postcard rural character, with long-distance walking routes and the downs close by making it popular with walkers.
The village retains a strong sense of community centred on its mediaeval parish church and a handful of local farms; historically agriculture and downland sheep grazing shaped the local economy and today farming sits alongside small-scale tourism and a number of commuter households to nearby market settlements such as Alfriston. Quiet lanes, historic buildings and surrounding countryside make it typical of small Sussex settlements valued more for tranquillity than commercial activity.
