Uckfield is a small historic market town in the district of Wealden, East Sussex, England, set on the valley of the River Uck. It sits on the edge of the High Weald and is within easy reach of the Ashdown Forest and the South Downs, so it’s popular with walkers and those who enjoy rural scenery despite being a built-up local hub.
Historically a coaching and market centre that expanded with the arrival of the railway in the 19th century, Uckfield today combines independent shops, local industry and commuter links to London and Brighton. The town has an active community life with markets, clubs and leisure facilities, and its riverside setting means it has occasionally suffered flooding, which has shaped recent local planning and flood-defence work.
