New Southgate sits in the north of London within the borough of Enfield, wedged between Arnos Grove and Friern Barnet and bisected by the busy North Circular Road. It is mainly residential, with a mix of Victorian and Edwardian terraces, post‑war estates and more recent infill developments, and has grown up around its rail and tube connections, giving residents easy access into central London.
The ward combines suburban green patches with stretches of light industry and small business parks, and features a notable Victorian cemetery and crematorium at New Southgate Cemetery. Socially diverse and increasingly the focus of local regeneration, the area has a busy local high street, community groups and the sort of everyday civic history you find in many outer London neighbourhoods.
