Winchmore Hill sits within the London Borough of Enfield in north London and still feels remarkably village-like, centred on a green with a cluster of independent shops and cafés along Green Lanes. The New River corridor and nearby Grovelands Park give the area a leafy, suburban character, with a mix of Victorian and Edwardian houses, later interwar properties and pockets of newer development.
Originally a rural hamlet that expanded after the coming of the railway in the 19th century, the neighbourhood today is largely family-oriented and relatively affluent, supported by active local groups and a busy high street. Transport links are strong - Winchmore Hill station offers regular commuter services into Moorgate and buses connect the ward with other parts of Enfield and beyond.
