The London Borough of Enfield sits on the northern edge of Greater London, bordering Hertfordshire, and mixes suburban neighbourhoods with surprisingly large swathes of green space. The area grew from the historic market town of Enfield, formerly in Middlesex, and still shows Tudor and Georgian architecture around Enfield Town alongside conservation sites such as Forty Hall and Trent Park.
Culturally the borough is diverse, with busy high streets and markets in Edmonton, Palmers Green and Enfield Town, plus community festivals and a lively local arts scene. Economically it combines retail and services with light industry clustered around Brimsdown and Enfield Lock, the latter known for its industrial heritage including the old Royal Small Arms Factory.
Geographically the River Lea and the Lee Valley provide riverside parkland and leisure facilities, giving parts of the borough a semi-rural feel despite urban links. Good rail and tube connections into central London, together with the A10 and nearby M25, make it popular with commuters, while ongoing regeneration schemes are reshaping town centres and housing across the borough.
