Ingatestone is a compact village in the Borough of Brentwood, Essex, England, perched above the valley of the River Wid. Its long high street of timber‑framed buildings and a station on the Great Eastern Main Line make it a popular commuter base for London, while good road links to the A12 and nearby Chelmsford keep it well connected yet quietly rural.
The centre is dominated by Ingatestone Hall, an Elizabethan manor long associated with the Petre family and the village’s recusant Catholic history, alongside the medieval parish church of St John the Baptist. Today Ingatestone mixes conservation areas, independent shops, pubs and small businesses with local events, surrounding farmland and bridleways that preserve an agricultural and equestrian feel.
