Dedham is a picturesque village and civil parish in the Colchester district of Essex, England, sitting beside the gently meandering River Stour at the heart of Dedham Vale AONB. The low-lying farmland, willow-lined riverbanks and rolling hedgerows make it one of the landscapes famously painted by John Constable, often referred to as "Constable Country".
Historically a rural community with timber-framed houses and an attractive medieval church, Dedham today balances agriculture with a tourism-led economy: galleries, independent shops, cafés, pubs and B&Bs cater for visitors drawn to the scenery and to nearby spots such as Flatford and East Bergholt. Local preservation groups and community events help keep its traditional character while supporting walking, boating and other outdoor activities on the Stour.
