Tolleshunt D'Arcy is a small rural village and civil parish in the district of Maldon, Essex, England, set on low ridges above arable farmland and just a few miles from the salt marshes of the Blackwater Estuary. With a population of around a thousand it has a quietly pastoral character - parish church, village hall and a few pubs rather than a high street - and is popular with walkers and birdwatchers who enjoy the estuary and coastal paths.
The village name combines an Anglo‑Saxon element with the Norman D’Arcy family who once held the manor, and a number of historic houses and lanes remain. Local life still centres on agriculture and small businesses, while many residents commute to nearby centres such as Chelmsford or London; proximity to attractions like the jam-making tradition at Tiptree and the maritime and oyster heritage of Maldon add local colour.
