Ashingdon is a small village in the district of Rochford in Essex, England, lying a few miles inland from the Thames estuary and within easy reach of Southend-on-Sea and the commuter routes into London. It occupies slightly higher ground above the surrounding arable farmland and coastal marshes, and sits close to the local airport and transport links that make it popular with commuters while retaining a rural village feel.
The village is best known for its historic association with the 1016 Battle of Assandun (often linked to Ashingdon), and the parish church of St Andrew that tradition says was established after King Cnut’s victory; that historic link remains a point of local identity. Today Ashingdon is largely residential with community clubs, a primary school and village events, combining a quiet agricultural hinterland with the economic pull of nearby towns.
