The village and civil parish of Lawford sits in the district of Tendring in Essex, England, just inland from the salt marshes of the River Stour estuary and adjoining the riverside towns of Manningtree and Mistley. Its position on the edge of the Stour valley places it close to the scenic Dedham Vale, often called Constable Country, and the area combines agricultural surroundings with pockets of historic housing and a traditional parish church.
Traditionally agricultural, Lawford has become a mixed community with local shops, a primary school and a village hall alongside commuters who travel to nearby Colchester and Ipswich by road and rail; the proximity of Manningtree station helps with that. Social life centres on community groups, sports clubs and occasional village events, while the nearby estuary and countryside attract walkers, birdwatchers and those interested in maritime and rural heritage.
