Mistley is a riverside village and civil parish in Tendring, Essex, in the east of England, sitting on the north bank of the River Stour close to Manningtree and the Suffolk border. Its estuarine location gives it a strong maritime feel, with a quay, boat activity and pleasant riverside walks that attract walkers, birdwatchers and day-trippers from nearby towns.
The village has a noticeable historic character born of its 18th- and 19th-century growth as a small port and centre for malting and waterfront trade; the distinctive ruins known as the Mistley Towers are a local landmark. Today the mix of old warehouses, converted industrial buildings and cottage streets supports a small local economy and community life, while easy access to larger rail and road links via nearby Manningtree and Colchester makes it a popular spot for commuters and weekend visitors.
