Yorkley and Whitecroft are neighbouring villages in the western Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire, England, set among rolling hills and ancient woodland. Both grew up around the coal, iron and timber trades that shaped the area and still bear that industrial legacy in old pits, quarries and the cultural memory of freemining that is distinctive to the Forest of Dean.
Today they feel like compact, community‑centred villages with village halls, pubs and local clubs, while many residents commute to nearby towns; at the same time they benefit from easy access to walking and cycling through neighbouring woods and trails, and a modest local economy of small businesses, forestry and tourism that leans on the Dean’s scenic and historic appeal.
