Severn is a largely rural ward in the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, sitting along the low-lying banks of the River Severn. The landscape is dominated by meadows, farmland and floodplain habitats, with a strong sense of riverine character - reedbeds, seasonal flooding and important birdlife give it a distinct natural identity compared with the hillier parts of the district.
Historically the river has shaped local settlement and trade, and you’ll still find small villages, listed churches and traditional farmsteads rather than large commercial centres. The local economy leans on agriculture and small businesses, with many residents commuting to nearby towns; community life centres on village halls, parish councils and local clubs, while flood management and conservation are ongoing social and political priorities.
