Slimbridge is a small village and civil parish in the district of Stroud, in west Gloucestershire, set on the low-lying floodplain of the River Severn close to the Severn Estuary. The landscape is dominated by grazing marshes, drainage channels and mudflats, and its position between Gloucester and Bristol means it sits within an agricultural belt with easy motorway access while retaining a distinctly rural feel.
Its best-known feature is WWT Slimbridge, the wetland reserve founded by Sir Peter Scott which made the village important for international waterfowl conservation, education and wildlife tourism - especially for wintering swans and migratory birds. Local life remains focused on farming and community amenities such as the village school and pubs, and the long history of living with tidal floods and managed drainage has shaped both the economy and character of the place.
