Wotton-under-Edge is a compact historic market town in the district of Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, sitting snugly below the steep rim of the Cotswold Edge. Its steep, narrow streets and honey‑coloured Cotswold stone buildings reflect a medieval and later cloth‑trading past, while the elevated position gives pleasant walks and views across the Severn Vale (and on a clear day as far as the Malvern Hills).
Today the town combines local independent shops, cafés and light industry with a lively community scene: regular markets, arts activities and an historic independent cinema and theatre attract both residents and visitors. Agriculture and tourism remain important to the local economy, and many people commute to nearby centres while enjoying the town’s strong community groups and village‑scale events.
