Andover is a market town and civil parish in Test Valley, Hampshire, England, sited on the chalk stream River Anton close to its parent, the River Test, and at the western edge of Salisbury Plain. Its position on historic east–west routes such as the A303 and the nearby RAF Andover give the town a long transport and military connection.
With Saxon and medieval roots and a long history as a market and light‑manufacturing centre, the town lived through 19th‑century industrial change - including the notorious workhouse scandal - and today combines retail, light industry and local government functions as the administrative hub of Test Valley, alongside riverside green spaces, museums and ongoing regeneration and housing growth.
