Dorstone is a small village and civil parish in west Herefordshire, sitting in the fold of the Golden Valley on the edge of the Black Mountains near the border with Wales. It’s a largely rural settlement: rolling pastures, hedgerows and lanes make it popular with walkers and birdwatchers, and its position close to market towns such as Hay-on-Wye and Hereford means day-visitors and countryside tourism are a notable part of the local scene.
The area has a long history - most famously the dramatic prehistoric chamber known as Arthur's Stone on a ridge above the village - and the community retains a quietly traditional character. Farming remains central to the economy, while village facilities and occasional local events help sustain a tight-knit social life and attract people wanting a rural base with easy access to nearby hills and trails.
