East Cowes sits on the east bank of the River Medina on the northern coast of the Isle of Wight, directly opposite Cowes and connected by the long-standing floating bridge. It is best known for Osborne House, Queen Victoria’s former residence, which brings a strong Victorian and royal flavour to the town and draws many visitors in summer.

Historically East Cowes grew around shipbuilding and marine engineering - the legacy of yards and factories is still visible - but today its economy leans more to ferry and boat services, boatyards, light industry and a substantial residential community. Its close proximity to the international sailing scene in neighbouring Cowes and to the island’s tourist circuit gives it a mixed maritime and commuter character, with a small-town social feel and regular seasonal spikes in activity.
