Yarmouth is a small harbour town and civil parish on the north‑west coast of the Isle of Wight, sitting at the mouth of the River Yar. Its compact quay, narrow streets and a mix of Georgian and Victorian buildings reflect a long maritime past; the Tudor fort of Yarmouth Castle still watches over the harbour, a reminder of its historic role in guarding approaches to the Solent and its medieval importance as a trading and shipbuilding port.
Today the parish leans on tourism and yachting - there’s a busy marina, regular ferry links to Lymington and an active sailing scene with summer regattas - while independent shops, cafés and a small, close‑knit community give the town a relaxed, village feel, popular with day visitors and walkers exploring the coast.
