Bean is a small village and civil parish in the borough of Dartford, in Kent, England. It occupies a rural edge of the borough, set among farmland and hedgerows and close to the rolling chalk of the North Downs, which gives the area a quietly rural character despite being within commuting distance of London.
Historically an agricultural settlement, Bean still shows that heritage in scattered historic cottages and farmhouses and a modest village community centred on a parish hall, footpaths and the local pub. Much employment now lies outside the village, often in nearby Dartford or London, and being within the Green Belt has helped preserve Bean’s countryside feel amid wider development pressures in the Kent commuter belt.
