The area of Greenhithe & Knockhall sits on the north bank of the River Thames within the borough of Dartford in Kent. It combines the riverside village of Greenhithe with neighbouring residential neighbourhoods and lies close to major transport hubs such as Ebbsfleet International, making it a popular base for commuters into London.
Historically the locality grew as a small riverside port and ferry point, and traces of that maritime past remain alongside more recent change. The locality is strongly influenced by nearby retail and regeneration projects - notably the large Bluewater shopping centre and the ambitions of Ebbsfleet Garden City - so the built environment mixes older housing with new developments; socially it’s a mixed community with local schools, riverside walks and a workforce drawn to retail, transport and construction.
