Walmer is a small coastal parish in the district of Dover, in Kent, England, sitting on the south‑east facing shore of the English Channel. It has a long shingle beach and promenade, looks out towards the hazardous Goodwin Sands, and lies close to the neighbouring towns of Deal and Sandwich, forming part of a distinctive stretch of Kent coastline with a strong maritime character.
Its best‑known landmark is Walmer Castle, the Tudor fort later used as the official residence of the Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports, with notable occupants and attractive gardens open to the public. The parish’s maritime and military history sits alongside Victorian seafront development; today the local economy leans on tourism, small independent businesses and commuters to Dover, while conservation areas and community groups help preserve its village atmosphere and heritage.
