Hawkinge is a small town and civil parish in the district of Folkestone and Hythe in Kent, England, set on the escarpment of the North Downs with views down towards Romney Marsh and the Channel coast. It sits a few miles north of Folkestone and benefits from easy road access to the M20 and the Channel Tunnel, so much of the local economy is residential and commuter‑based while the surrounding countryside remains agricultural and popular with walkers.
The town is probably best known for RAF Hawkinge, a key fighter station during the Battle of Britain, and there is a memorial and small museum preserving that aviation history; post‑war expansion turned it into a family‑oriented community with local shops, sports clubs and active volunteer groups. Despite modern growth, Hawkinge retains a village feel and strong links to nearby coastal towns such as Dover and Folkestone.
