Barming is a semi-rural parish immediately west of Maidstone in the county of Kent, in south‑east England. It lies on gently rolling farmland close to the River Medway, and today combines an older village core with suburban housing, small woodlands and the remnants of orchards that hint at the county’s fruit‑growing past.
Historically agricultural, with hop gardens and orchards, Barming still has a medieval parish church and a village feel despite 20th‑century housing expansion. A local railway station offers regular services into Maidstone and beyond, making the area popular with commuters, while a handful of shops, pubs, a primary school and a village hall sustain a close‑knit community atmosphere.
