Nettlestead is a small rural village and civil parish in the Maidstone district of Kent, set among rolling farmland and orchards with a number of former gravel workings that have become lakes popular with anglers and wildlife. It retains a quietly rural atmosphere while being within easy reach of larger towns, so many residents commute for work but village life still revolves around farming, leisure and local community activities.
The settlement has medieval roots centred on the moated manor Nettlestead Place and the ancient parish church of St Mary’s, whose historic fabric is a visible reminder of the area’s past. Today Nettlestead mixes agricultural traditions with recreational uses of the lakes, conservation interests and a close‑knit social scene typical of Kentish villages.
