Manston is a small village and civil parish on the higher ground of the Isle of Thanet in the district of Thanet, Kent, England. Sitting on a chalk plateau a few miles inland from the east coast, it has agricultural surroundings and open views across the low-lying coastal strip towards Ramsgate and Margate.
The area is best known for its long aviation history: a former RAF base that later became a civilian airfield has left a visible imprint in local life, with aviation heritage celebrated in a small museum and regular reference in community identity. Proposals to use the airfield for freight and other commercial activity have shaped recent economic and political debate, yet Manston retains a distinctly rural, village character centred on farming, small businesses and a tight-knit local community in east Kent.
