Dewsbury East is a ward in the metropolitan borough of Kirklees in West Yorkshire, covering the eastern side of the town of Dewsbury. It sits in the Calder valley close to the River Calder and benefits from good road and rail links to Leeds and Huddersfield, with the M62 corridor nearby making it a convenient commuter area within the borough.
Once shaped by textiles and the shoddy trade, the area today is a mix of residential estates, local shops and pockets of regeneration, and is notable for its cultural diversity, including a prominent South Asian community in places such as Savile Town. Social challenges like deprivation coexist with strong community networks, local groups and sporting traditions, giving the ward a distinctive post‑industrial, working‑class character.
