Great Harwood is a small market town in the borough of Hyndburn in the county of Lancashire, England, set on the banks of the River Calder and on the edge of the foothills of the Pennines. It sits a few miles from larger centres such as Blackburn and Accrington, offering a mix of rural scenery and easy links into the wider East Lancashire conurbation.
The town grew rapidly in the 19th century with the cotton and textile trades, and remnants of that industrial past - mill buildings and rows of weavers’ terraces - still shape its character. Today the local economy is a blend of small businesses, light industry and commuters, while community life is marked by local shops, sports clubs and a broadly village‑style social scene that reflects its industrial heritage and surrounding countryside.
