Earby is a small market town in the borough of Pendle, Lancashire, in the north of England, sitting on the western fringe of the Pennines close to the border with North Yorkshire. It was historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire until local government changes in 1974, which gives the town a mix of Yorkshire and Lancashire identity in local culture and loyalties.
The town grew around small-scale industry and textiles and was once served by the Skipton–Colne railway line, closed in the 1970s and now the focus of local campaigns for reinstatement; today Earby combines a compact high street of independent shops, community clubs and light industry with easy access to walking country, making it a quiet commuter and market-centre for the surrounding rural area.
