The ward covers the small market town of Earby and the nearby village of Coates on the eastern edge of the borough of Pendle in Lancashire, England. Sitting close to the Yorkshire border and neighbouring towns such as Barnoldswick and Skipton, it occupies rolling farmland with views towards Pendle Hill and the Forest of Bowland, giving it a pleasant rural–urban fringe character.
There is a modest industrial and agricultural heritage - small textile mills and local trades once played a part in the economy and Earby was formerly served by a railway link - while today the area relies on local shops, light industry and commuters to larger towns. Community life is active for its size, with village halls, churches and walking routes that attract residents and visitors who enjoy the scenery and quieter pace.
