Thorp Arch is a small village on the northern fringe of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England, set beside the curve of the River Wharfe and a short drive from Wetherby. Although compact, it sits in attractive Pennine fringe countryside that makes it a popular spot for walkers and for people commuting into the city.
Its name reflects old Norse roots - "thorp" meaning an outlying farm - and the area has an interesting 20th‑century twist: the site of a Second World War Royal Ordnance Factory was later redeveloped as the Thorp Arch Trading Estate. The village is also known locally because of the nearby training facilities used by professional football, and economically it mixes light industry, local services and residential life while remaining close to major routes into Leeds.
