Hallaton is a small village and civil parish in the district of Harborough, Leicestershire, England, set on rolling countryside near the Welland valley a few miles east of Market Harborough and close to the Northamptonshire border. The setting is predominantly agricultural with a compact historic core, and many locals commute to the nearby towns for work while enjoying a strong rural community life.
The village punches above its weight historically and culturally: the nearby discovery of the Hallaton Treasure – a large Iron Age coin hoard and associated finds – attracted national interest, and visible earthworks of a motte-and-bailey and the ancient parish church give a tangible sense of age. Socially Hallaton is best known for its eccentric Easter traditions, notably the Hare Pie Scramble and bottle-kicking, which still draw visitors and maintain a robust local rivalry and community spirit.
