Oadby is a town in the borough of Oadby and Wigston, in the county of Leicestershire, England, lying just south‑east of Leicester city centre. Its name derives from Old Norse, reflecting Viking settlement in the area, and the place grew from a small agricultural village into a prosperous commuter suburb during the 19th and 20th centuries, with many attractive Edwardian and interwar houses.
Today Oadby is largely residential, known for good schools, local shops and pleasant green spaces, while benefiting from close links to Leicester and institutions such as the University of Leicester. Leisure and local identity are marked by features like Leicester Racecourse on its edge, and the town has a diverse community with a notably strong South Asian presence alongside long‑standing family neighbourhoods.
