North Somercotes is a small village on the coastal edge of East Lindsey in Lincolnshire, England, sitting just inland from the salt marshes of The Wash. Historically much of the surrounding land was marsh and has been reclaimed for agriculture, so the village still feels like a farming community with a tight-knit social life centred on its church, village hall and a handful of local shops and services.
The area draws attention for wildlife and wartime history: nearby nature reserves such as Donna Nook and the dune systems around Saltfleetby-Theddlethorpe Dunes are important for birdlife and the grey seal colonies that attract seasonal visitors, while the former RAF North Coates airfield speaks to the village’s 20th-century military links. Economically it remains rooted in agriculture, with some tourism spill-over from seaside towns like Skegness and visitors coming for coastal wildlife and quiet rural character.
