Milton Keynes is a unitary authority in England originally designated as a new town in 1967 and built around a grid of roads, roundabouts and generous green spaces. The authority area incorporates older settlements such as Wolverton, Bletchley and Stony Stratford, and is perhaps best known for landmarks like Bletchley Park (the Second World War codebreaking centre), the Concrete Cows and large venues such as the National Bowl and Centre:MK.
Geographically it blends urban quarters with linear parks, lakes and waterways including the Grand Union Canal and the River Ouzel, which makes it greener than many post‑war new towns. Economically it’s a strong retail, logistics and tech hub with good road and rail links to London, and culturally it hosts theatres, galleries and regular music and community events; at the same time it’s often discussed for its car-oriented layout and ongoing expansion as a fast‑growing, young and diverse place to live.
