Ouseburn is an inner‑city ward just east of Newcastle upon Tyne, centred on the steep, wooded Ouseburn Valley where the small River Ouseburn runs down to the River Tyne. Once a 19th‑century industrial corridor of mills, workshops and rail viaducts serving shipbuilding and engineering, much of the Victorian fabric survives in stone buildings and brick arches that give the area its distinctive topography and character.
Since the late 20th century it has become one of Newcastle’s creative quarters, housing galleries and venues such as The Cluny, Seven Stories and the Biscuit Factory, alongside microbreweries, studios, independent cafés and community projects. The ward is known for its lively cultural scene and visible industrial heritage; regeneration has boosted the local economy and nightlife but has also prompted discussions about gentrification and housing affordability.
