Shipdham is a compact rural village and civil parish in the district of Breckland in Norfolk, England, set in the characteristic Breckland landscape of open arable fields, patches of heath and pine. It sits within easy reach of the market town of Dereham and is within commuting distance of Norwich. The village is perhaps best known for the former wartime airfield, RAF Shipdham, where relics and memorials recall its use by Allied air forces during the Second World War.
Today the local economy remains rooted in agriculture, supported by small businesses and a close-knit community life centred on a village hall, a pub and local clubs; there’s also a historic parish church of medieval origin and regular village events such as fêtes and shows. Shipdham combines quiet rural character with an active social scene, making it typical of small Norfolk parishes that balance heritage with everyday village life.
