Hoveton sits on the north bank of the River Bure opposite Wroxham in North Norfolk, forming part of the celebrated Norfolk Broads. Its low-lying landscape of reedbeds, broads and winding waterways makes it a classic spot for boating, birdwatching and riverside walks, and the village feels very much defined by life on the water.
The local economy is shaped by tourism and river services – boatyards, hire firms and waterside cafes – alongside gardening and small-scale retail; Hoveton Hall and its gardens add a historic, horticultural note. Good rail links on the line towards Norwich mean it also functions as a commuter and day-trip centre, while its origins in agriculture and the flooded peat diggings that created the Broads give the place a distinctive historic character.
