South Killingholme is a small village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, set on the south bank of the Humber Estuary. Its landscape is an unusual mix of low-lying reclaimed farmland and saltmarsh fringes alongside large-scale industry - oil and chemical works and port facilities around Immingham give the skyline an industrial character while mudflats and reedbeds attract migratory waders and other estuary birdlife.
Despite the nearby plants and docks, the village retains a quiet, rural feel with a village hall, pub, primary school and a small historic church at its core, reflecting its agricultural roots. The local economy is dominated by energy and port employment, and community life is shaped by countryside pursuits, birdwatching and the practicalities of living beside one of Britain’s busiest estuarial corridors a few miles from Grimsby.
