West Butterwick is a small village and civil parish in North Lincolnshire, England, sitting on the west bank of the River Trent opposite East Butterwick. The village occupies low-lying fenland at the northern edge of the historic Isle of Axholme, so the flat, open landscape, riverside views and rich farmland are immediately noticeable and shape much of everyday life.
Locally the economy is largely agricultural and the community is small and close-knit, with village events, a parish church and a village hall often at the social heart. Historically the settlement has ties to river transport and land drainage schemes that reclaimed marshes for farming, and the Trent-side location makes the area popular with walkers and birdwatchers attracted by the marshes and river wildlife.
