Locking is a compact village and civil parish in North Somerset, a few miles inland from the seaside town of Weston-super-Mare. Set on the northern edge of the coastal plain with views towards the Mendip Hills, it combines a rural village atmosphere with good road links that make it convenient for commuters to nearby towns.
The village has medieval roots centred on St Augustine's Church, but its more recent character was shaped by the presence of RAF Locking, a major training station whose site has since been redeveloped for housing and light industry. Local life revolves around community institutions such as the village hall, primary school and sports clubs, and the area mixes agriculture, small businesses and commuter households rather than large-scale industry.
