Banwell is a small village and civil parish in North Somerset, England, sitting on the southern fringes of the Mendip Hills a few miles inland from Weston-super-Mare and not far from Cheddar Gorge. The village is noted for landmarks such as Banwell Tower (a 19th‑century Gothic folly) and its historic parish church, and nearby Banwell Caves - the Bone Cave there yielded prehistoric animal remains and the site is popular with walkers and naturalists.
Today Banwell keeps a largely rural character with farms, small shops and local services, while many residents commute to Bristol or nearby towns. There is a lively community life centred on the village hall, school and sports clubs, and the locality draws visitors interested in outdoor pursuits, local history and the quieter side of Somerset life.
