Winscombe and Sandford are neighbouring villages in the civil parish of Winscombe and Sandford in North Somerset, sitting on the southern edge of the Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The settlements enjoy classic limestone countryside and are within easy reach of Cheddar Gorge and the cities of Bristol and Weston-super-Mare, which makes them popular both with walkers and commuters.
The area has a strong community feel with local shops, pubs, schools and a range of clubs, while the disused railway corridor known as the Strawberry Line has been repurposed as a well‑used walking and cycling route. Historically the Mendips’ quarries and agriculture shaped local life, but today the economy is a mix of small businesses, farming and residential life, with easy access to outdoor recreation and nearby natural attractions.
