Wraxall and Failand is a semi-rural civil parish in North Somerset just to the west of Bristol, its villages sitting on undulating countryside and limestone slopes with wide views over the Severn Estuary and towards the Mendip Hills. The mix of hedged farmland, small woodlands and quiet lanes gives a distinctly village feel despite the short commute into the city.
The parish is best known for the Victorian Gothic Revival house Tyntesfield, now in National Trust care, which brings a steady stream of visitors and supports a modest local tourism economy; otherwise life here revolves around agriculture, local clubs, village pubs and historic parish churches, with a largely residential population of commuters and long-standing local families. There is a strong conservation and community spirit, reflected in ongoing efforts to protect the rural character and historic buildings.
