Backwell in North Somerset is a sizeable village and civil parish about seven miles south-west of Bristol, sitting on the fringe of the rolling countryside towards the Mendip Hills. The village blends a compact centre with pleasant green spaces and local wetlands - Backwell Lake is a popular spot for walks and wildlife.
Originally an agricultural settlement, Backwell has become a well-connected commuter community with frequent services at Nailsea & Backwell station and easy access to Bristol Airport and the M5. It retains a strong local life, with schools, shops and sports clubs (notably rugby), historic buildings and an active community atmosphere valued by residents.
